In this update, we’re excited to share the decision by Sarasota Orchestra’s Board of Directors to approve the selection of a critical project partner, and highlight for you why a Music Center is the “missing piece” of our arts and cultural community.
Sarasota Orchestra Selects Music Center Architect of Record
As recipients of our SCORE newsletter may have read, Sarasota Orchestra’s Music Center requires collaboration between two architectural firms:
- Design Architect (search underway): Responsible for the overarching artistic direction and visual appeal during the initial design stages of the Music Center.
- Executive Architect (HKS): Licensed in Florida and responsible for transforming the Music Center design plans into construction blueprints while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and quality assurance.
While the highly anticipated process of identifying a design architect continues, the Board of Directors has approved the selection of HKS as the architect of record, or “executive architect” for the Music Center.
HKS is a global firm with offices in Orlando and Miami, and extensive experience creating cultural facilities that celebrate and build community. Its impressive portfolio includes projects such as the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando, which is home to one of only three concert halls in Florida built for acoustic music.
The following graphic depicts how HKS will collaborate with the design architect selected throughout the life of the project.
So far, HKS has started evaluating the site at 5701 Fruitville Road to determine the overall configuration of the Music Center, including its general volume and shape. These specifications, among others, will be critical to the work of our design architect, who will be tasked with capturing the essence of the Music Center through a visually striking building aesthetic.
