Biography

Jonathan Spivey grew up in Sweden and began playing piano at the age of 5. He took lessons in Stockholm with Stig Ribbing and Lars Roos, and gave performances in Drottningholm Theatre and in Trondheim, Norway. Jonathan was a National finalist in the Music Teachers National Association auditions. Jonathan studied with Martin Canin in New York. Jonathan has given concert appearances in Carnegie's Weill Hall, Seoul, Korea, Melbourne, FL, and Kansas City, MO. Jonathan is also the pianist in the Sarasota Piano Quartet and the organist at Church of the Palms in Sarasota.

First year with Sarasota Orchestra: 1991

Instrument: With the help of Jeffrey Kahane, the Orchestra found a beautiful new Steinway concert grand in Los Angeles. It seems to be settling in nicely here in Holley Hall, and it is becoming better every minute it is lovingly played!

Education: Doctor of Musical Arts – State University of New York at Stony Brook

Career Highlights: Some of Jonathan's favorite musical moments include appearing with Sarasota Young Voices in Notre Dame (Paris, France... and Montreal, Quebec) and performing in Dublin, London, and New Orleans.

Passions and Interests: Outside of music, Jonathan enjoys ice hockey, trips to Sweden, strong coffee, and watching his kids do amazing things.
