The Sarasota Orchestra's Youth Orchestra Program has been hailed as one of the most exemplary youth programs in the Southeast. The nationally acclaimed artistic staff, conductors and coaches have created a learning experience for the young musician that is unparalleled in our community.
The philosophy, underlying the program, is to involve all interested children from third grade through high school in classical and symphonic music, both as audience members and musicians. During their 30-week season, seven different orchestras rehearse weekly and play concerts publicly. Students can expand their skills, increase musical knowledge, develop a strong team spirit and most of all have fun with other youth.
To learn more about the ensembles, skill levels, rehearsal times and tuition, please see our rehearsal schedules. Click here for information on auditions or view the concert schedule. Scholarships are available on a need basis, by submitting the application.

The Sarasota Orchestra Youth Program consists of seven orchestras, affording students the opportunity to participate in an ensemble comparable to their skill level.
Students audition each year for a position in one of these orchestras. Each ensemble rehearses weekly, from September to April in the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center at 709 North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.
All Sarasota Orchestra faculty members are experienced musicians with excellent credentials and a strong commitment to teaching. Our instructors mentor each student’s unique needs and goals through both individual and group programs.
Any student who plays an orchestral instrument and is in the third grade or higher may audition for placement in the Sarasota Youth Orchestra Program.
All Youth Orchestra participants are required to play in their school's orchestra or band, in addition to this ensemble. All participants must audition each year.
The Youth Orchestra program has taught thousands of young people to become better musicians. Many become performers with the Sarasota Orchestra or major symphony orchestras throughout the country.
Seven different orchestras rehearse weekly from September through April. Students progress through the program from string ensembles up to full orchestras. Auditions are held every year.
