Musical Landscapes

Discoveries 2

Natalie Helm

Saturday | 7:30 pm | Sarasota Opera House

See the world from your seat in the Sarasota Opera House with Musical Landscapes, an evening of sonorous scenic panoramas. Whitcare's luminous re-imagining of the River Cam, which flowed past his window at Cambridge University, features Sarasota Orchestra's own principal cellist Natalie Helm. Smetana paints a lush portrait of a Bohemian river in The Moldau. Mementos "remembered with affection" come to life in Barber's Souvenirs, while Copland transports us to the heart of the Midwest in poignant excerpts from The Tender Land. The sightseeing concludes with a sojourn to Scotland through Maxwell Davies's raucous portrait of An Orkney Wedding, With Sunrise, featuring bagpipe soloist Gary Reinstrom.

Hailed for his "energy and enthusiasm" (Buffalo News), guest conductor Stefan Sanders is your dynamic guide on this matchless musical tour.

Our brand new Discoveries series offers a refreshing classical music experience at the Sarasota Opera House. These fast paced, 75-minute programs feature works by Mozart and Beethoven and today’s most accessible living composers. Post-concert Talk Backs with the conductors and soloists finish off the evening.
