Sophie Choate is a versatile and passionate musician. Currently pursuing a master's degree in viola performance at the Jacobs School of Music, Sophie performs with the IU New Music Ensemble and Conductor's Orchestra, as well as the Terre Haute Symphony. In past summers, she has been selected as a Fellow of the Music Academy of the West, toured Europe, Asia, and Latin America with the National Youth Orchestra of the USA and attended the Madeline Island Chamber Music and National Symphony Orchestra festivals. A graduate of Harvard College, Sophie served as principal of the Harvard-Radcliffe and Harvard College Opera Orchestras, as well as sole bowed string player of the inaugural Harvard New Music Ensemble. She received first prize in the American Viola Society Youth Solo Competition. Also an accomplished vocalist, Sophie has sung several principal soprano roles in opera productions and is equally at home in choral, new music, and early music settings.
