Cellist Lucas Chen is a rising junior in the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange Program. He holds top prizes from the US Open Music Competition, New York Young Virtuoso Competition, American Protege International Concerto Competition, ENKOR International Music Competition, Burlingame Music Competition, and United States International Music Competition. He has been featured as a soloist with the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra and The Harker School Orchestra. Previous festival appearances include Music@Menlo and the Meadowmount School of Music. Lucas has performed in masterclasses for Matt Haimovitz, Matthew Lipman, David Finckel, David Requiro, Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu, Shai Wosner, Christopher Costanza, Eric Chin, and the Calidore and Míro String Quartets. Lucas’ principal chamber music coaches include Susan Bates, Benjamin Simon, and Muneko Otani. He is the former principal cellist of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. Lucas currently studies with Darrett Adkins, and his previous mentors include Jihee Kim and Jonathan Koh.
