Ellen Hayashi is a junior at the University of Michigan, majoring in violin performance with Professor Danielle Belen. Originally from Utah, she was a Dorothy and Richard Starling Foundation Scholar in the studio of Eugene Watanabe. Ellen made her orchestral debut at age 10 and has performed with orchestras in Utah and Michigan, notably three times with the Utah Symphony. Ellen was a 2021 and 2022 National YoungArts Foundation Winner and a selected student artist for the 2023 Starling-Delay Symposium for Violin Studies at Juilliard and the 2024 Calidore String Quartet Seminar. An avid chamber musician, Ellen was a gold medalist in the Pasadena Conservatory of Music Chamber, WDAV Young Chamber Musicians’, ENKOR International Music, and St. Paul String Quartet. Most recently, as a member of the Duffield String Quartet at Michigan, she was a recipient of the Rosseels String Quartet Award and the Binkow Grant for Chamber Ensembles.
