Zhiwei Ni started playing the clarinet at the age of 9 under renowned clarinet pedagogue, Fan Lei. In 2016, Zhiwei studied at Interlochen Arts Academy with Emil Khudyev and later graduated from Colburn Music Academy where he studied with Yehuda Gilad. In March 2020, Zhiewei was admitted to the Eastman School of Music with a full scholarship where he currently studies with professor Michael Wayne. In 2019 and 2020, he was selected for the China Youth Symphony Orchestra (NYO-China) and toured Europe. In 2022, Zhiwei was selected as a finalist for the Carl Nielsen International Competition, and won first prize at the China-Spain International Music Competition - Clarinet Session in 2021. In 2020, Zhiwei won second prize at the Vandoren Emerging Artist competition. Zhiwei received second prize at the third Central Conservatory of Music International Mozart Clarinet Competition in 2016 and won first place in the China National Clarinet competition in Qingdao.
